Day 7

In your own space, share your love for a trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme. (More than one is okay, too.) Tell us about it, tell us why you love it, give us some examples and recs.

It's still January 7th in some parts of the world, isn't there??

This challenge was hard! I love so many different things and I'm of the opinion that most tropes can be done well. A really well-written fic can make me enjoy scenarioes I didn't think I would.

And since it says "More than one is okay", I'm going for two examples :)

* Marauders non-magical AUs (especially Remus/Sirius) (- or AUs where they survive the war and live in the Muggle world). There's just something about these characters that makes them fit so naturally into Muggle settings. I'm not especially drawn to non-magical AUs when it comes to other pairings, and I'd probably be a bit sceptical about a non-magical AU where for instance Snape and McGonagall were the main characters. I get why a lot of people aren't into Muggle AUs, as the whole magical HP universe is so important in this fandom. And yet, quite a few of my favourite R/S stories are non-magical.
I love a lot of canon compliant Marauder fics, but I also love seeing these characters in settings where the war doesn't define their lives as it does in canon.

Choosing one rec is almost impossible, but here's one that I recently re-read and enjoyed a lot:
The Nothern Line by ceredwensirius
Word Count: ~25,000
Summary: Every morning before work, Sirius dodges his mother's barbs, runs the family business, sorts his brother's blunders, and trades insults with his best friend. He also falls in love.

* Down-on-his-luck!Draco or otherwise struggling Draco that remains very much Draco. I'm not really sure what this says about me, but there's just something about a struggling Draco who's still more than able to be snarky and sarcastic. I enjoy a lot of different Dracos, but this is one of my favourites.

One of many fics I love:
One Thousand Bars by anonymous at hd_erised
Word Count: ~19,000
Content/Enticements: Saving People Thing!Harry, Draco in Azkaban, immediately post-war. Other characters: Hermione/Ron, Ginny/Dean, Neville/Hannah, Narcissa Malfoy, OMCs, Kreacher, Kingsley Shacklebolt, Weasleys, Andromeda Tonks
Summary: And I will hold on hope / And I won't let you choke / On the noose around your neck / And I'll find strength in pain / And I will change my ways / I'll know my name as it's called again

I could easily name a lot more tropes and motives that I love, this almost felt like having to choose between beloved friends ♥
It's funny, non-magical AUs are something that I've really warmed up to over time. Now I really like them too, it's funny how that happens.
Thanks for the recs though! I'm not sure I've read them :O!

Haha, yes, I know what you mean! That's been the case for me with some pairings and tropes, the "ooookay, I'll just check this out, then", and then little by little (or like a punch to the gut) I end up loving it :)

I hope you like the fics if you check them out :) I love so many non-magical AUs in Remus/Sirius fandom that it felt almost impossible to choose one :)
Down-on-his-luck!Draco and non Magic AU are <3 to me too.

There's not enough non magical AUs. ^^

HP fandom likes to hold on to the magical universe ;) Which I adore too, but it can be so great to meet these characters in Muggle settings as well!
There are actually quite a few non magical AUs in Remus/Sirius fandom, though :)
Not so into muggle AUs, but are there any good AUs where one or all of MWPP survive either war? I've always liked the idea, but most of the ones I've read have been unfinished WIPs, they were mostly for shippy purposes (I'm fine with shipping, but I feel like something more than that should drive an AU), or they just... weren't very good. I did read a fic trilogy (I think?) of AUs that was a WIP for years and very very good, but it got a little too dark for me as the premise was that the war had carried on into Harry's school years. (The author was Robin4, I believe? It was the Unbroken Universe, I believe. I was actually in the fandom-within-a-fandom* for that AU and always liked Robin, but yeah, the fics were just so dark...)

*So to speak.

ETA: Now that I think about it, though, I think I RP'd a muggle AU once. I RP'd so many things though, I can't tell you the specifics.

I know a lot of people aren't especially fond of Muggle AUs, and tbh I didn't think I was going to like it all that much myself when I first came into HP fandom. But especially with the Marauders, it just seems to work for me :)

The first fic that came to mind was Now by youcantseeus, where Remus and Sirius survive both wars. It's Remus/Sirius, but it's much more to the story than that; it's beautiful, and despite the warnings and the first few paragraphs of the fic, it's not a dark story.

And of course there's shimotsuki's Warp and Weft series, which you probably already know :)

Ooh, RP'ing seems like louds of fun :) Are you still doing it?

Nah. I actually just posted an entry about my RP days. :) it was fun while it lasted (if with the occasional drama), but I just don't have the time for it anymore, and I also think I'm too picky about how things are written.
I really love non-magical AUs; I wish there were more of them! It's funny, because in other fandoms (like Teen Wolf) there are loads, but people are just so attached to the magical HP world (and I can't blame them, really!)
Yeah, I suppose it's not a huge surprise that the HP universe is so important in HP fandom :) And I love the magical universe, absolutely. But it's so much fun to play around with these characters in a Muggle setting as well :) At its best, it can highlight sides to the characters that might not get to shine in a setting where the war defines so much.

There are quite a few non-magical AUs in Remus/Sirius fandom, it's the one pairing where I've seen it most frequently :)
